A network of more than 1,000 Facebook accounts has been running coordinated review-attacks on journalists, newsrooms, political rivals and cultural institutions, using Facebook’s review tool to discredit critics and suppress reporting. These accounts repeatedly post negative reviews on pages critical of the Awami League (AL), lowering their public rating on Facebook.

Hate and calls for violence spread through the TMD hashtag
In Bangladesh, the TMD hashtag has become a tool for spreading communal hatred on social media. Between October 22 and 28, 2025, Dismislab identified at least 39 posts that directly incited violence and hatred against a specific religious community. Dismislab also found about 178 additional posts that spread communal hatred using the TMD hashtag with coded or ambiguous language. Many of the posts also violate Meta’s community standards. Election Watch

After Sheikh Hasina’s fall in August last year, discussions about reform, the election and a possible referendum quickly spread through political circles and the media. At the same time, false or misleading information on these issues began circulating on social media.

Between Oct. 1 and Nov. 15, eight Bangladesh-focused fact-checking organizations debunked 57 unique election-related false claims. The first half of the current quarter saw nearly three times more election related misinformation than the entire third quarter.

During this period, the largest share of false narratives involved fabricated statements and fake quotes attributed to government officials and leaders of various political parties. Other claims promoted nonexistent surveys to push misleading narratives about party popularity and election prospects.
