For as little as Tk1,000, buyers can obtain sensitive personal data, including call-detail records. Sellers also offer National Identity Card and passport information, SMS records, subscriber locations, tax details and mobile financial statements. Although access to such telecom data is legally restricted to authorized agencies, it is now available to virtually anyone willing to pay. Dismislab investigated how this market operates and the risks involved.

‘Raped’: Legal language evolved, media still lag behind
|

A 2020 amendment to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act replaced the stigmatizing term “Dhorshita” (raped) with “dhorshoner shikar” (subjected to rape). Yet major media outlets continue using language that defines victims by the crimes committed against them. Dismislab reviewed 30 outlets’ websites for editorial guidelines on rape, sexual violence and gender-sensitive reporting, and found specific rape-reporting guidelines on only one.
